Akron Public School District - PK-12 Education

Akron Public School District
G. Stephens, Inc. was a part of the construction management team providing construction management services for this program. With a full-time project manager, project engineer, and superintendent assigned to this project, GSI’s responsibilities included the following: cost management, constructability reviews, OSDM reviews, value engineering, estimating, scheduling, construction project direction, and project close-out.
GSI participated in the construction of the Betty Jane Community Learning Center, which is $8.3 million of the total project. As well as, Helen Arnold CLC, Crouse CLC, Barber CLC, and Firestone High School. The old, existing building is 61,446 square feet, housing 450 elementary school students. The building required asbestos removal, gas and water relocation, and site / building demolition. Students now learn in a light-filled environment, comfortably heated and cooled by state-of-the-art mechanical systems.
The district is comprised of fifty-eight facilities throughout the City, divided into eight individual segments for construction. GSI worked on segments one and two. More than half of these facilities were scheduled for reconstruction on existing sites, which required extensive swing space utilization and limited space availability.
