Cleveland Clinic/Case Western Reserve University Health Education Campus
The Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) have partnered together to construct a four-story, 485,000 SF Health Education Campus (HEC) on an 11-acre site at the gateway to the 185-acre Clinic Campus. The lead architect is the world famous Foster + Partners located in London, England with the local Westlake Reed Leskosky serving as architect of record. The construction management team is a joint venture between Donley’s and Turner with G. Stephens, Inc. providing project engineering, scheduling, cost estimating and document management services as a sub-consultant.
The building will house the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, CWRU’s School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine and the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing. The four individual schools, with an anticipated total enrollment of 2,300 students, will be housed in the main building sharing a skylight covered central “living room.” The facility will also incorporate the leading edge Microsoft technology, HoloLens.
The delivery method for this project is Fast Track with a Construction Manager at Risk (CMaR). The work is proceeding in stages allowing more complex end-user-focused design packages. The entire project team is utilizing Design / assist, BIM coordination, LEAN practices and mock-ups (atrium structure and glass) to facilitate timely design and construction related decisions. As of today, eight concrete “cores” are approximately 75% complete and the structural steel is expected to commence the first week of May. The project is on time to permit students to begin classes in the fall of 2019.
A goal of this project is to be LEED certified.
