Kent State Student Center Master Plan Study

Kent State Student Center Master Plan Study

After over 30 years of continuous use and many incremental renovation projects along the way, Kent State University decided to have a master plan study prepared (2003) for a potentially expansive renovation and upgrade of the Student Center. G. Stephens, Inc. (GSI) supported the Design team with the development of a renewed facility assessment and an update to the 2003 Master Plan Study Report, expanded to evaluate space utilization, proposed updating of interior aesthetics (finishes, signage, and image), ADA and building code compliance, and MEP/Technology systems upgrades. GSI provided cost estimating and scheduling services. The scope of the design team’s work was comprised of three main components. Task 1 was to assess and investigate the existing facility and its surroundings and prepare an assessment report. Task 2 was to identify areas of the building that need improvement and to prioritize these issues into short and long term needs and goals for the upgrade of the facility. Task 3 was to develop a master plan strategy to address the issues raised above and those listed in the “Goals and Visions” list. This study update was completed in 2015.
